What must a new website include for Google?

Picture this: you open the most beautiful café in town, but there's no sign on the door and the entrance is hidden behind a dark courtyard. No one finds you.

The same happens to a website with forgotten SEO. Google doesn't judge beauty — it reads code and structure. Here are four things your new site must have.

1. One H1 heading — not two, not zero

Google reads your page like a book. The H1 is the book's title. Every page should have exactly one H1 that clearly says what the page is about (for example “Quality electrical work in Tallinn”).

H2s are chapters (“Services”, “Our work”), H3s are subchapters. If you mix them up just to change text size, you confuse Google.

2. Meta title and meta description

These are the texts people see next to your link in Google's results.

  • Meta title: up to 60 characters, includes your main keyword and company name.
  • Meta description: up to 155 characters, a short pitch that invites the click.

If you don't write them yourself, Google picks a random snippet from your page, which often looks confusing.

3. Mobile-friendliness and speed

Google indexes sites mainly by their mobile version. If elements shift, buttons are too small or the page loads slowly, your visibility in search suffers.

4. XML sitemap and robots.txt

These are technical files for search robots. An XML sitemap is a map of all your site's addresses; robots.txt tells robots where they may go.

Once your site is ready, add it to Google Search Console and submit the sitemap there. Google will find you faster.

Good SEO doesn't cost thousands of euros

Good SEO is clean code, clear structure and logical text. Pages built with Odav Koduleht have headings, a mobile view and speed in place from the start; the Pro plan adds SEO markup for search — see how building a website works.
