When is a simple website enough, and when do you need an online store?

When starting a new business, it's tempting to build something grand right away: “Let's make an online store with 50 categories, a cart, automated inventory and five payment methods!”
Reality check: a system like that can cost thousands of euros, needs daily management, and complex integrations tend to break. Often it turns out the product could be sold much more simply.
When a simple site is enough
A fast, well-made single-page website is the right choice when:
- You offer services: you're a builder, consultant, beautician or lawyer. The goal is to get the customer to call or send an enquiry.
- You sell a few products: 1–5 products don't need a cart. Show them on a good landing page and add an order form.
- You're testing a new idea: before investing in an online store, launch an affordable page and see whether there's real interest.
When an online store is unavoidable
You need a real e-commerce platform (such as WooCommerce or Shopify) when:
- you have a wide range and customers buy several items at once;
- you need real-time inventory management;
- you want automated parcel locker integration (Omniva, DPD, Itella);
- you process dozens of orders a day and manual invoicing no longer works.
Smart strategy: start small, think big. With a simple page and an enquiry form you get your first revenue and move to a full store when there's a real reason.
Choose a solution that fits your current stage
A simple, fast page often brings more enquiries than a clunky, half-finished store. Odav Koduleht builds exactly these pages — with services, prices and an enquiry form; it doesn't build online stores — see what a landing page is.
