Your website is ready! But before you hit "Publish" and send the link to friends — hold on for a moment. Rushing means small details get missed, and those details can ruin first impressions or cost you enquiries.
Here's a practical checklist. Set aside 15 minutes and go through these steps.
1. Test all forms (critical!)
Fill out your enquiry forms, send test emails, and check:
- Do the emails arrive at the right address?
- Are they landing in spam?
- Does the sender see a confirmation: "Thank you, we've received your message!"?
- Do clickable phone numbers and email addresses work?
2. View the site on a real phone
Don't trust only your developer tools. Open the site on your own phone and ask a friend with a different brand to do the same.
Make sure: the text is readable, images don't shift, and the menu opens and closes smoothly.
3. Favicon and tab title
A favicon is the tiny icon on the browser tab. If it's a blank square or a hosting company's logo, it looks sloppy. Upload your own logo as the favicon.
Also: the tab text should be correct, not "Home — New Project."
4. Images and speed
Large images are the biggest speed killer. If you uploaded a 5MB photo straight from the camera, optimise it:
- Use TinyPNG or a similar tool
- Convert to WebP
- Target: load in under 2 seconds
5. Language versions and placeholder text
Make sure there's no forgotten "Lorem Ipsum" lurking anywhere. If your site is multilingual, check that all buttons and error messages are translated.
6. Google Analytics and Search Console
If you're not measuring traffic, you're flying blind. Connect the free Google Analytics and Search Console to know where your visitors come from and whether Google can see your site.
For our clients, this checklist is a daily standard. We never hand over a site that hasn't passed these tests. Your launch should be a joyful and secure experience!
